wire getting sautered?

First my spedometer and my odometer doens't work, not sometimes my car gets stuck in first gear. Is it becasue a wire is getting sautered and its slowly cutting off of the computer?
-if i turn off the car and turn it on again, the gears switch fine.

Re: wire getting sautered?

sounds like your car is in "Safe Mode"...is the problem constant?? if so then your tranny might be on its way out. as for the speedo/odo problem, your speed sensor might be dead, its an easy replacement...but let me know if the car gets stuck in first often, thats a common instance when the tranny is about to die or there is a problem with it!

Its not constant, most of the time it works. What does safe mode mean

Just some FYI, there's no such word as "sautered".

If you mean "soldered", (it's pronounced like 'saudered') that means you take solder (a soft, easy to melt metal that comes in wire rolls) and a soldering iron, and join two electrical contacts together.

I think maybe you just mean "shorted" right? Since short circuits are sometimes things that cause electrical gremlins.

Good luck with your problem, but it does sound like what DA-MAX is talking about, although the transmission going into Safe Mode may be just related to the problems you're having with the speedometer.

"safe mode" occurs when the car senses a problem in the transmission and it locks itself in 3rd gear(what you thought was 1st)...this basically is aloowing you to "get home" safely without causing more damage to the car....most liekly since you say this only happen once the computer probably had a glitch and "thought" something was wrong and put the car into "safe mode". this happen to me as well in the past, just turned the car off, waited a few seconds turned it back on and no probs! I think you're fine though, sometimes the car just hasd a mind of its own, since you say its not constant and it operates normally other times, then I'm pretty sure you're in the clear!

just to make sure there are no electronic malfunctions do this when you start the car up nextime:
while turning on the car, watch the "Power" light on the "Power/Comfort" control switch...it should blink once to signal proper electrical operation, BUT if it blinks more than once it is possible that there is an electrical problem, which most likely is a bad sensor or connection(usually an easy fix!) try that....

Damn.. My power/comfort blinks like 10 times rapidly when i start the car. o well better than a bad transmission.

thanks for the help guys

it mught be telling you that your speed sensor is bad....replace the sensor and see what happens!
