Wipers just quit on me...please help
For the past week, my wipers seem to have a sticky part in their path. When the wipers go up, they start off just fine and then they get half way in the upward motion and it goes through a sticky part where they slow down and then it loosens and goes the rest of the way up. When they go back down, it goes down with ease. All this started when my car spent it's first night in NC. (below 20 degrees)
Tonight, my wipers go to that sticky part and they didn't have enough energy to get through the hard part. So, they are stuck in the middle of my windshield. The way I got them back down is, I had to physically help them get through that sticky part. All they needed is a little push. So, I am thinking that my problem is the wiper motors are starting to wear out and get tired. And they finally are too worn out to work. What do y'all think? Is it my wiper motors? Or could I have a different problem? Who here has had this exact problem before? Thank you everybody in advance for saving me money by not going to the dealership.

I don't really know, but you could always open up the cowl and look inside to see if anything's binding, rusted, worn, etc. You have to remove the wiper arms, but it's not major surgery. The wiper arm mechanism is pretty simple mechanically so you could always try disconnecting different parts of it to see what the problem is. Not sure how to test the motor other than by doing this and playing around with it or seeing how easy it is to stop it with your hands or something...

Okay, after more than a week of using Rain-X, I am ready to finally get my wiper problem repaired. I have gotten a couple mechanics to look at it and they all say it's my windshield wiper motor. Okay, so I start looking around for prices. Regular auto parts stores have them for about $85. The dealership has them for $260.
Does anyone know why it's so expensive? I know it's the dealership and they love to give you the shaft. But, is there any difference with these two parts, other than a little quality? Has anyone had to replace their wiper motor before? Is there any advice to be given?

replacing your wiper motor is a piece of cake the biggest piece of advice is to take your hood off its just 6 bolts and it will make your life a thousand time easier the motor itself its held on by 4 bolts and the armiture that conntects to the wiper arms themself pull off with a good stiff pull reconnect in reverse adn grab your dad or your girlfriend to help you put your hood back on i did mine in just under 1 1/2 hours in the freezeing cold 2 weeks ago

i wasnt doing a motor swap i had to replace the armiture that connects the motor to the wipers but i had to take the motor completely off to do it
due to the position of the motor the hood makes bending over for an hour or more a pain in the a$$ and its just a tip to make life easier
