idle dropping out when braking
I know I have asked this question before, but here it goes. I have a 93 se 5sp with 142,000 miles. When I am coming to a stop like at a red light and I put the clutch in and start applying the brakes, the rpm's drop down below idle speed and fluctuate from about 200 to 750 until the car completely stops and then it will rise to reg idle speed and hold. I have had the throttle body sensor replaced. I have had a some broken exhaust studs replaced and a new o2 sensor put it. It idles great when stopped and it doesn't always drop out when you are driving. It is not consistantly everytime. Can anyone help me with this problem? I thought the exhaust leak might be confusing the brain according to vaccuum pressure and the o2 sensor might play a part in it also, but it hasn't changed. Could it be anything other than the main computer? Any info would be appreciated. Scott

Have you tried cleaning your AAC valve? If you don't knwo what it is, it regulates the air into the throttle body to compensate for additional loads being applied and removed so that you have a constant idle.
Also, you idle may not have been set correctly. If you don't close the AAC valve when setting the idle it could produce similiar symptoms.

Can you give me details on how to close the aac valve and adjust the idle? The idle while the car is stopped runs pretty good, it is just when I put the clutch in and I apply my brakes to stop. If you can give me step by step on how to do this, I'll try this and see if it clears it up. Thanks.

Yes, check the AAC valve. Chrysler calls them Idle Control Valves and my dad and I had to repace an Idle Air Controller on his Chevrolet pickup. Basically it allows a small amount of air to bypass the throttle body and give the engine a little extra power when you turn on the AC, turn (power steering), or brake. When they go bad they make the vehicle stumble, buck (violent shaking), missfire (feels like it anyway), die and have a generally erratic idle. These of course are some of the more advanced symptoms, but definitely check it out.
