I had the stock unit lightened and balanced(with the pressure plate) last week. Stock=19lbs lightened=16lbs. Not earth shattering but that's about how much you can safely take out. They took most of the meat out of the outer ring just under the ring gear. I put a new OEM(no key value kits!! Trust me on this guys) clutch parts so I haven't driven it hard yet but I can tell you this. The VE needs to get to a certain rpm asap to activate the VTCs and get into the sweet part of the torque band(which is about 3500-6000 rpm) This thing is only 3 lbs lighter but I can tell the engine gets up and goes easier. Revs faster and keeps on revin'. Drivabilty has not suffered at all. In fact the SMC shifter did 2x more to hurt the shifting than the flywheel did. Cost of the lightening/balancing/resurfacing = $160. Not bad considering aftermarket unit costs $500+ but it will weigh about 11-13lbs. Now that is light! Too light? maybe but I can say that 1-2lbs off of the 16lbs, would not hurt drivability.

I'm happy with the mod and glad I broke down and did it. Something to consider come clutch replacement time.

Oh and for your FYI. I have first hand experience to compare the Key Value clutch kits vs OEM stock Nissan clutch kits. NO COMPARISION. The OEM stuff feels like an stage 1 clutch compared to the Key Value crap. The worn out eom clutch felt just about the same as a new key value. Don't say I didn't warn you VE 5-sp guys.

Please note that the above mod, was made to a 5-sp ve engine w/ the following mods: Cattman Y, RT cat, Custom cat-back w/ a Y2K muffler, and JWT cone filter.

Sounds good for 16lbs

That gain sounds good for 16lbs,so i could imagine what the unorthdox 11lbs fly is like. This fly cost much more then what you paid but maybe if we can get atleast 10-15 people who want them maybe we can get a group deal on them, they cost $590 from unorthdox directly.

Re: Sounds good for 16lbs

That seems like alot of $$ for 3 more lbs. The 1st 3 lbs. cost $160 the next 3-4 lbs. is gonna cost $574. Simpistic view on the subject but that's what it comes down too in the end.

I'm interested in the flywheel group deal

There are 3 companies I believe that I have seen make them. Anywhere from 500 to 700 bucks. I want one and will eventually get one but cheaper is better. Does anyone know whether or not flywheels from other cars are interchangeable with ours such as different model 300Z's. Maybe we can swap flywheels out with a car that comes stock with a lighter flywheel.

Holy crap... $590 for a piece of metal? That's outragous...

Man.. a Type R flywheel is only $200 from honda. An aftermarket flywheel for honda, the most expensive is still only bout $400. Wow.. .that's just crazy.

$$$$$$$$

Ya i feel you,$590 is kinda steep but it beats nopi price which is $706 for the same fly now that is really $$$$.Well we should contact unorthdox and see if they would do a group discount.

Me in! This is one mod I could use since I am doing the VGT swap. Definitely what a turbo engine likes. It will put me in the hole but what the hell, my max is worth it.
