Sad Day

So lately my car would be making a little ticking noise by the intake valve and today the car would make some nast noise in the enginw like a *clack clunk clack* so the car left me stranded infront of some mechanics shop so he checked ir out and said supposedly my pistons were gone but i doubt that was the deal he tried charging me 1800$ but i was like nah dude so now the car wont start but it cranks,any idea on what could it be? Its a loud noise it makes,i really dont want to junk the car :/

I would start by doing a compression check.

Tell us what you have - what year and which engine.

Also he checked something by the front right tire he jacked up the car and used a long wrench and told me my engine had moved and that it was cracked he tried telling me my car is dead but i honestly dont believe him

Running a compression test as Dennis said will tell you what you need to know regarding repair cost. If there is no compression, then $1,800 is probably about right.

He could have been checking one of the motor mounts, but I can't be sure of that.

But if you don't trust the guy, take the car to another mechanic like AzureblueZ said.

That kind of noise you hearing, very real possibility that your engine is done for. how many miles on the odo?

check the oil...see any glitter in it?

when you crank the car via starter does it sound different?
how's that timing belt doing?
