Got a strange problem some of you may be able to help. I start my car shift from P (park) to D drive and my tranny won't shift to drive but after it's on D if I push the shifter down a little then it kicks in. Is this is tranny issue that is happening or simply the shifting control button or something.

You have a linkage problem. There is a plastic collar/washer on the bottom of the shifter that wears out, so you are not moving the shift rod the proper distance.

Nissan calls it "insulator" and it is part number 34552-D4000

Dennis - have you ordered from nissanpartsdeal.com before? It seems like they have the best prices and better availability than some Nissan dealers but I hadn't heard of them before.

yes I have and I haven't have any problems. Another place that is usually cheaper is parts.com and I have had no problems with them. I use nissanpartsdeal for illustrations in my posts because you can't link to parts.com screens.

With all due respects, in this case the part is only $3.00 list price at the dealer. Most likely the shipping charges at an on-line place will end up costing you a lot more than the dealer price. Plus, if you go to the dealer you will have it the same day.

I need to replace this same piece on my Maxima one of these days. Mine does the same thing as OP's, but it's not bad enough to motivate me to replace it.

If I remember correctly from the last time this was asked you have to come up from underneath the car, removing exhaust shields and what not to replace it?

It has been a long time since I have replaced that bushing and I don't remember the fine details. But you do have to replace the part from underneath. I also remember that it was more difficult than I expected. But removing things like heat shields - probably. If I have to remove something to gain access - so be it.

Yes you have to remove the heat shields and cotter pin. Otherwise it is easy. Make sure your car is cool, because you will be near the cat.
