Brake Line Leak

Last weekend I was driving my 1993 Maxima SE when suddenly the brake pedal fell to the floor. After inspecting the car, I found a severe leak in a brake line from just below front driver-side door and the back door.

After getting the car to the dealer they estimated that it will cost $1,010 (only $100 of which is parts), to replace the brake line. They claim that they will need to remove a lot of parts, including the gas tank and the front sway bar, to replace the line. As a part of the process, they will also replace the other rear brake line and the fuel lines that run along side (labor would be the same since most of it is related to the disassebly/reassembly). Since the line is rusted, they do not want to "splice" in a piece where the line is leaking. The dealer claims that since all these lines run together, if they start messing with them, others may break.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I am tempted to take the car to a local guy who said he can "splice" a piece in for around $100.

Thanks,
schmidtwi
