Sounds like you need a new clutch or possibly ( but not likley) an adjustment to it. Sounds like your bro may have drove it hard.
Better get it fixed before you damage the tranny.

If it is a new clutch, then all you may need is an adjustment.

I would take to dealer for this prob.
Tranny is something most mechanics are just not qualified for.
If the clutch is new it prob just needs adjustment. How far is the pedal coming up before engage? If it only engages close to top then get it adjusted.Won't cost too much( no parts)

Why don't you ask your brother what the heck he did to your car? If he abused it in some way it might be helpful to know how, so the problem can be narrowed down.

Is there any gear grinding when you put it in gear, or is it just hard to move the shifter? Has your clutch engagement point (how high/low you have to push it) changed any? Assuming it's not near the floor already that is.

If the clutch is fine it could be he somehow messed up the shifter bushings, causing hard shifting. Maybe. Other possibilities too.

If you take it into a shop I wouldn't go to a dealer for this. They'll be expensive and won't be any better at it because there's nothing special about this transmission. Take it to a shop that specializes in transmissions instead. They'll know more about what causes these general kinds of problems and how to fix/adjust it.

WHOA !! Wait a minute before you change out that clutch. I am surprised no one actually mentioned checking the fluid. Check your fluids first. There are 2 resovoirs next to the firewall on the drivers side. One, the top one, is for the brakes and the one below that is for the clutch. Make sure they are at a decent level. There are marks on there for you, MIN and Max. I have had my clutch fixed twice now, the last time was just last month. Always check your fluids first before spending over $500.00.

make sure your floor mat isn't pushed up under the clutch. that happened to me one time. i was so ****ed and then i looked down and noticed the little black tab wasn't in the hole. or it was sorta barely out. i pulled the floor mat back and BAM, tranny shifts like a dream. . .

If your clutch has trouble disengaging and now works differently than before then maybe. The system's hydraulic just like your brakes. There's a master cylinder on the firewall and a slave cylinder on the transmission. If either of them is leaking or has air in the system it could cause a problem with the clutch, but not with the shifter unless the clutch isn't disengaging properly.

You're not helping either since you haven't told anyone more than what your first post said.....
