Is AAMCO right place?

I have a 90 Maxima, recently auto transmission started to show some strange signs- when it moves from 0. it moves very slowly. Some times it jurks. It looks like it does not have any power. Surpersingly, it runs smoothly only once in a while.
Anybody have any idea where to take my car for repair. Is AAMCO good? any comment? I am in NYC.

IMO you're better off looking for a ind shop and not a chain shop.

Check your transmission fluid yourself first. You may just have to add some fluid or get a fluid change. Thats what it sounds like to me. Always let it heat up properly, the fluid probably gets slushy at night when it's cold and needs to thin out.

I wouldn't go to aamco. I guess it depends on if you know people who work at an aamco, otherwise they'll do excessive repairs that you don't need and you'll have to pay for it. I think you should have it inspected by a nissan dealership first, if they do a free estimate of the repairs then that'll definitely be worth it. They'll tell you what they think it is. Aamco would say, dear god!! we can't allow you back on the road in this condition!! give me money now! I must fix it! I am transmission god, behold my glory!

Since the auto trannys are so weak, i think a cheap and very smart investment would be a transmission cooler.

I went to AAMCO for my "transmission" issue. Turned out not to be the transmission, but they were pretty cool with it.

If you go to their website you can get a cupon for a free estimate, but with the case of any major reair get multiple quotes for the work and opinions on what's wrong.
