Y-Pipe???

Okay, this is probably a really really stupid question, but I'm going to ask anyway and look stupid while I'm at it. What exactly is a Y-Pipe and what does it do? I searched online for a little bit and all I know is that is looks like a "y" sorta. Anyone care to share without makin me feel like a moron

hmmm...since i'm in a decent mood...

Y pipe is what connects the two exhaust manifolds to the cat.
the overall shape of the pipe gives the "Y" shape.

a performance Y pipe just changes the flow of exhaust gases more efficiently compared to stock.

Here's another probably stupid question to add to this. I'm thinking about getting the WSP CAI and Y pipe. Will the Y pipe make a difference with the stock Cat-back?
