Transmission hose question

Hey guys, I was changing my oil today and I noticed that there's a rubber hose on top of the my auto tranny that isn't connected to anything. Is this a vent hose? I'm a bit confused because it runs from the top of the tranny and the hose is connected to a metal piece shaped like a "U", but that isn't connected to anything else. Where does it go if it does at all? Thanks.
