Hi fellows, new on this forum. Keep up the good work
on all the info I get. I have 3 questions
1. How difficult is it to install the Y pipe/crossover
exhuast pipe in a 91 maxima. My car makes these irrating
sounds like a machine gun with silencer going off. Local
shop said there are holes in my y pipe. Is there any
welding involved etc?
2. My cold startup is very rough of late, the engine shakes
till it reaches normal temperature then stops. When the engine is at normal temp i have no problems. There is also a slight idle speed movement(according to rpm gauge).Could the leaking y pipe be the cause of the rough startup?
3. How can I reset my idle speed to factory specs(Not just the screw adjustments procedure)?
Thanks in advance, I hope I didn't ask to many.Cheers.

y-pipe answers===WarpSpeedPerformance

I have the answer to question #1. WarpSpeedPerformance.com has a y-pipe for your car. See our web site. We have them in stock now, both Stainless and Aluminized steel. We offer the most reasonable priced y-pipe on the market. If you order, I will personally ship tomorrow. Ask the other Maxima experts about your rough idle question. Thanks

idle speed adjustment

not sure if yours is 5-speed or auto. idle spec for 5-spd is 750 rpm +-50. someone here can give you what the spec is for auto. procedures are similar

1. locate your ECU from passenger side. it is behind and below the radio on the floor. remove the plastic piece that is hiding it. find the little adjustment **** in hole. (you can) turn it with a small screwdriver.

2. turn on your car. if manual, stay on flat surface, put it neutral, parking brake on.

3. on the ECU, turn the **** all the way to the clockwise until it can't move.

4. in the engine bay, locate the idle adjustment screw. in the pic below, it's circled on the bottom right with an arrow pointing to the screw.

this is what you turn to increase/decrease your idle speed.

5. check your idle speed as you turn the screw. i used the tach in the car. adjust to factory spec.

6. when adjusted to spec, turn **** on ECU all the way counterclockwise.

done.

this is from memory, i think i got most of it correct. someone correct me if something is not right.

good luck

andy

Re: idle speed adjustment

Hi Andy,
Thank you my friend, this is what I needed. I have only been adjusting the screw without the ECU procedure part.Hopefully this will help with my idle speed problem.
If not I have learnt something new.My is a 5 speed.Thank you.
