i am a recent 92 max owner. I smell gas by the gas tank. i've a hissing noise similar to a flat tire. I replace the gas cap. The hissing noise goes away, but the gas smell is still there. I also replace the fuel canister, but nothing changed. In addition, my lock/unlock doesn't work all the time. I'm stuck. Can someone help me. My max is a 92 se with 63,000 miles.

When the car is cold, open the hood then start the engine. Follow all the fuel lines and look carefully. One or more of the rubber lines are probably leaking at the hard line connections. You should replace the leaky hoses w/ quality fuel injection hose avail at most auto stores.

If its coming from the gas tank it could be the filler tube. Theres a recall for that and they`ll fix it for free.
Go here http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ and check the recall history out. Then call this number, 1-800-647-7261, its Nissans coporate number, and see if you have any open recalls. If so call your dealer and have them fix it.

I had the same problem on my max. It was the vent line (fuel return line) on the gas tank. Nissan quoted $25 for the fuel hose (less than 2 feet) but I got a similar FUEL hose from Advance Auto Parts for less than $5 ;-))
