Bimmer headlight conversion question

Ok people for those who have bimmer headlight conversions. I noticed that most of you guys use the stock US version of the E36, so if i were to get the ZKW's E36 Free Form, would the size difference be so big that it won't fit? Please get back to me ASAP cuz the the bimmer guy is waiting on me for my response. Thanks

here is more info for you guys to work with.
The free form is 1 to 1.5 inches longer from front to back then the ellipsoid, so would that be too much of a difference for the max?

When you talk about the free form being longer, are you referring to the mounting depth, or the length of the assembly itself? Although I haven't done the conversion (yet...), I would think that depth might be a problem. I'm just going by some of the particulars that I saw on Blake's (block) web site.

But hey, if you've got a pic of the free form, post it for comparison purposes...

BMW Headlites (1st Step)

Ok I'm in the dark about the headlights. Where do I get them, at BMW parts Dept? Or is there a Website that sells the whole set-up?

I got my from some guy in the bimmer forum. www.bimmerforums.com
Just go to their buy-sale-trade section and you'll find tons. I found a guy who was selling his free form lights with angel eyes only for 400 dollars.

Well...

As long as you plan for a lot more cutting (everywhere) you should be fine.

Best thing to do is either find a bunch of BMW or E36 forums with a parts classified section, or (if you're not comfy buying from Joe Blow) find a online store that sells them new or used. You could also simply go to a local junkyard.

Use the SEARCH engine here if you haven't already. It'll give you how-to links and all the info you need.

Good luck, and remember this isn't a simple bolt-on.

I would think it might be hard for one person to custom make something for other people who wants a bimmer conversion mainly becuase there is alot of cutting and wiring in the car itself. Too bad it's like them honda plug and play parts.

Labor costs ALONE will skyrocket the price on that kinda conversion, if one of us were to do it for everyone else - I'd hate to see the bill on THAT one!!
