Do all max's come with the stock "body kits" haha you know what i mean, the little side skirts and thing aorudn the bumpers. And My engine looks pretty pitiful... Runs great but when you pop the hood it's covered with ****. How cna I clean it up? I didn't thnik taking a hose to it, or anythign liek that would be too good of an idea, but I see some of your engines look liek you coudl eat off of them, advice?

to clean your engine, go to an auto store and buy gunk...yes thats its actual name.it should say engine cleaner or degreaser...its got instructions on the can just remember to cover distributor cap and other electrical wires..and yes you do hose it off.also dont do it on your driveway it leaves a slippery mess...

or walmart is having a sale here for 68 cents a can for there cheap techno engine cleaner. ha. no really it works.

 

Some suggestions: I used Never Dull from A-Z (auto zone), to clean all the gunk off the fire wall and stuff. Not to mention it shines metals and is just a really good all purpose cleaner! I've taken rust off (not completely mind you) an old chevy emblem. It isn't an abbrassive. Otherwise, I take a squirt bottle to the car wash that has the tire and engine cleaner selection. Insert .25 cents and fill up the bottle, take home and spray in engine where needed, wipe and hose off as desired! Now that's cheap!

 

yup.. just make sure you spray the engine down when it's cold..
Never use a power sprayer on a hot engine. you can crack the exhaust manifolds and other hot parts doing stuff like that.
that said, I usually just open the hood and hose down the engine when I'm rinsing off the car at the car wash.. before car shows, I'll take a can of spray cleaner to id, but usually I don't even mess with that.. just open the hood and hose out the dust and stuff.
when the engine is cold, I'll get right down near the exhaust and power spray the hell out of the valve covers and intake tubing and stuff.. when it's warm, I just stand back and gently spray water under the hood.

also if you have an open intake/filter, be sure to cover the filter with aplastic bag or something to protect it from the water.

 

so cover up, distributor cap and airobox then just go with the directions on a can of engine degreaser? Anyone with a really bad lookign engine try this and get good results? (i'm piolrly going for it this weekend, just wondering what to expect).

And nobody answered mny question abotu the body kits.

I have cleaned my engine with that stuff when it was really dirty. It actualy helped a lot more than I thought. Its good stuff. I'm not sure what you mean by the "stock body kits". My car in no way looks like it has a body kit on it. Oh well, maybe someone else understands what your talkin about.

I know what you're talking about speed because my 94 GXE has the body kit. My car is the pearl white and has these black side skirts that extend to the front and rear bumpers. I'm trying to find a pic of it.

 

Is the small black part at the bottom of the car what you are talking about? That's what I have on my car. Hope that helps clear things up.

What is being shown in the picture are the oem mudflaps, I've got them and so do a lot of others on here. As far as the black on the bottom of the Max, as far as I knew, all Max's were painted a darker color on the bottom, this is not a ground effects peice!

 

One more thing: As far as the Engine cleaner goes, I went to K-Mart and bought "CD-2" engine cleaner/degreaser/detailer. It was about $6. A word of the wise: Make sure that you cover up your belts too because all and/or most of these chemicals contain some sort of silicone which in turn causes the belts to slip and SQUEAK LIKE HELL! My mechanic told me this and basically ripped my head off for doing this. I had to use belt dressing for about 3 or 4 weeks until the squeaking finally stopped.

Another thing: I hose my engine off at the car wash every week (or so). I have only used that engine cleaner twice. If you really want it to look nice and don't mind a few extra pounds, you can get your manifold (and other parts) "chromed" at places around town. That is, if you have the $$$ too!

 

thankls for the belt advice, i woudl ahve been pissed if I had squeaking! I'm not tlakign abotut he mudflaps, but the whole part that is paint black around it...If you lok on your car (at leats mine and soem others) it looks like it's attached, or at leats juts out a little bit so that it looks like a really small body kit below the doors and bumpers. Mine is body color (black). I think I remember seeing a post of someone taking there's off.
