Bose & Subs w/ Amp PROBLEM!! HELP!

heres my dilema....I have a 92 Max SE with Bose and I put a Sony Xplod CA-650 deck in there....yeah everything worked great...then I tried to hook up my amp and CD changer...The changer only plays out of the back speakers and now the deck CD player only plays out of the front speakers.....and my amp gets power (the power led lights up) but the subs don't work...And i know these are good subs....now I'm not sure if I have that adapter thing or whatever that Crutchfield sells but It played fine before I connected my amp and ****. Can Anyone help me?

First let me ask, Have you ever installed any of the stuff you're naming? My cousin has his max xploded out and I practically installed everything, only difference was he had a gxe.....I myself have an SE and the first thing i was told was that you have to bypass the BOSE system if you install aftermarket speakers, but you said you only got subs...so that shouldn't matter. The only thing I can think of is you might want to first check the settings on your headunit (HU. If that doesnt work, you might need to pull the HU out, check all your speaker wire connections and make sure they're matching. With the sub and amp connection, hopefully you have RCA cables connecting to both units and if so, you might have them inserted to input (on the amp) as oppose to output...might be vice a versa. Check the gain *** as well as the bass boost *** on ya amp, they might still be turned all the way down which would be why no sound is coming out. If need be, disconnect everything and reconnect it back up and just play around with it....eventually you'll find out where you messed up!! I'm no professional installer, but i hope that helps a lil!!

Try pulling the wires to the amps on the stock speakers and running the signal wires straight to the speakers instead of through the amps. Aftermarket decks don't do well with the Bose speakers becuase of the difference in impedence I think. I'm no stereo expert, though !

well I had all of this **** in my old 2nd gen Max and it all worked great and I noted all the connections and they are all the same.....the only thing that I am not sure about is the direction of the RCA cables. What I mean by this is that there is a little arrow on the RCA rables that go from the BUS audio output on the HU to the AMP. Right now I believe I have the arrows going in the direction of the amp But I am not sure. If anyone knows for sure which direction it is I think that may be the problem. As for the sound only coming out of the front for the HU and the rear for the changer....I dont know what the problem with that is. I might end up replacing the ROSE speakers anyways cause when I turn it way up they don't sound too great. But when the volume is not too high they sound great. Well if anyone has any more help please post!

Is there a code u have to press to get the damn thing working. I bought it from a friend and now that friend aint here no more so i cant ask him. Does anyone know anything about this sony deck???

bose n nobose

It is best to go all bose or no bose. the only decent way to mix bose and no bose with an audiolink converter.

i got pretty good results connecting an amp and subs to the bose unit, but the Bose speakers are made to only be compatable with BOse haeds/amps.

You could wire around the bose amp at each speaker, but it really is not worth it cause they do not sound right. Bose has major eq chips in their amps (at each speaker).

Cmon guys help me out here! My changer only plays at 2 volumes and only out of the rear speakers! And when I put a CD in the HU it only plays out of the front speakers but will play at any volume. And I hooked up my subs just like they were hooked up in my old 87 Max SE and they get power (I see the red LED light up) but they don't output anything! I was thinking about just replacing the BOSE cause they don't sound that great. Maybe it's because I don't have the aftermarket adapter? I don't think there is an adaptor but could that be the problem if I don't have one? And would I need the adapter for aftermarket speakers? I was thinking about getting Pioneer 4-ways in the back to complement my subs and some pioneer 5 1/4's in the front. But If all I need is that stupid adapter please let me know! Help me guys!

Dude, just rip out all the Bose crap and start over. There's no way to tell exactly what is wrong, because:

1) Part or all of the Bose stuff your using may be busted

2) We cant look at your car and tell you if all your wiring is correct

3) This kinda crap is the norm when you try to mix Bose and non-Bose

So, rip out all the Bose crap, rewire it all, and then come back if you have any problems.

So should I keep the Bose amps in there and just pull the speakers or do I have to rewire a whole new wire from the HU to each speaker?

Something is really screwed with the wiring. Can't figure it out from here. Go all bose or no bose. It probably would be cheaper to buy a whole Bose system from someone here. That way you might be able to figure out what parts that you have are good and then have some backups for when the stuff dies.

Well I would rather go no-bose since I would be buying new stuff versus old stuff. But just to clarify, what is the speaker size in the front doors for my 92 SE with bose?? I have heard 4 I have heard 4 x 6 and I have heard 5 1/4" but I don't know which is accurate. I would like some nice 3-ways in front and some 4-ways if possible in back but I know there aren't any 3 way 4 x 6s. Another thing, so do I keep the BOSE amps and wires in there and just pull out the speakers, or how do I take out everything that's BOSE without pulling out every wire.

This is what I did:

Bought a component set... 6 1/2" - with tweeters and crossovers...

I took out the bose speakers/amps in the front doors and made custom mounting plates for the the new 6 1/2" speakers out of fiberboard that bolt up to the stock Bose holes.

Hooked up my new H/U...Clarion DXZ715

Bypass the Bose wiring from the head unit to the doors and run new speaker wiring from the head unit to your new speakers in the door. I didnt actually rip out any of the Bose wiring but just left it in there, and ran the new wiring along the same path. The only actual wiring stuff I had to do was finding which wires were the constant, ignition, power antenna lead, etc. from the stock wiring in the dash.

All this powered by a Legacy amp: 75 watts RMS by 2 channels

This make sense? You're not actually ripping anything out. I just took out the Bose speakers, and ran new wiring from the new H/U to the new speakers along the stock wiring locations.

For some reason I dont get e-mail notifications from here anymore, so if you have some specific questions e-mail me and I'll do my best to help you. Hope this helps.

Like James said leave the olds wires but run new wires. You could use the old wires but it would be a little tricky figuring out what is what and they are pretty thin wires.

When you take out the bose speaker/box the amp comes with it and you need to make a custom mount but you can fit 6 1/2, (or 5 1/4 easily).

I would stick with 2 ways and get componants if you can afford it.

new wiring

ok Ive thought about new wiring after I bought aftermarket hu and and all speakers plus 2 subs. I already bought the converter harness from crutchfield. but since Im doing new wiring would I splice my ground, power and memory from my hu into the bose wiring or can I splice from the converter harness and run to the speakers from the harness, to the speakers so I can bypass the bose wiring for those....
see what I mean?
And where was that link that showed taking off the front panel w/pictures? the how-to for this

PS...in the back I tried hooking up a used 6x9 in my non-working left rear speaker by splicing the 2 of 4 wires from the harness the plugs into the amp (the smaller 2 for normal speaker connection) the speaker was low and crackled, it might be the speaker, it might be the wiring, and of course will sound crappy with no amp anyway.
When I went to auto-salvage to get speakers I almost bought the Audi Bose front speakers, it has a different connection, but is almost essentially the same, does anyone know about mixing different bose components from different cars?

bose

ok, i got the standard bose in the front and infinity reference speakers in the rear ( not on bose amps ). i'm running a panasonic head unit, and it all goes sweet! just have to have the fader faded back to even out the signal. my bose amps crapped out, but i repaired them by replacing the electrolytic capacitors on the amp, and they work sweet!! if your head unit has sub outs or even rear pre outs then you should have no problem running subs, unless there is something wrong with the subs...

In your guys opinions are the bose speakers good enough to keep in if i decide to add subs or would it be smarter to just replace the speakers entirely.

yup:|

Thats gonna be my thing in a minute. I guess I could run the fronts off the hu and the rear 2 and 2 subs off the ammp, and run the cord...under the middle of car carpet to rca? And maybe an extra battery in the back could be a good idea? (on that note hook the ac up to that one heh)
