Y-Pipe for 91 SE

I’ve got a 91 SE with a cracked Y-pipe. I would appreciate advice on the least expensive replacement (I’ll do the install myself). I called Courtesy Nissan and was quoted $194 for the y-pipe, plus $87 in heat shields and gaskets (the y-pipe has been updated so the old heat shields won’t work). Are there any aftermarket y-pipes that are less expensive? I would also consider a slightly more expensive y-pipe if there are real hp gains to be had.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Please copy my e-mail address (abkcabrera@msn.com) on your responses as I don’t regularly monitor the list.

Thanks,

Al Cabrera

Well, for the price that the shields and Y-pipe costs you could get ourself a mandrel bent Stainless pipe from www.warpspeedperformance.com like DA-MAX said. I don't believe you need to have heat shields on an aftermarket Y-pipe. That's interesting that they re-designed the Y-pipe, that shows you why the gains are so great with aftermarket Y-pipes.

a few months ago i put a warpspeed performance Y-pipe on my car and even though it was the non mandral bent alumanized pipe it still gave me alot more power with a large noticeable differance off the line. i think with shipping it totaled out to about 215$. I think it was the best mod ive ever done to my car, and i highly recomend it.

All,

Thanks for the advice. I will be ordering the Warpspeed non-mandrel bent Y-pipe today. I spoke to a tech at Warpspeed and he says the difference between the mandrel bent and pressure bent y-pipes is very small and that I would not notice it. If one was to replace the entire exhaust system with larger diameter tubing and a higher flow cat and muffler, it would make sense to spend the extra $30 on the mandrel bent unit. But for my application (the rest of the exhaust will stay stock), the pressure bent pipe will do just fine.

Thanks again for the help.
