a few ?'s about electronically adjustable suspension. . .

i know very little about this, and i did a search, but nothing i came up with was very helpful. Is the exterior of the shock on these physically different than on the normal maximas? I'm wondering if they would basically bolt up. I've never actually seen a 3rd gen with the suspension, that's why i'm wondering. If they bolt up, how are the shocks electronically adjusted? is it a motor that turns a valve on top of the shock or on the side of the shock? Or is it all internal, meaning do you just plug and play into it. I can't imagine that would be the case. The reason i'm asking is, since konis are our only adjustable option, if the electronic suspension just simply moves a mechanical piece on the shock, then there's no reason why you couldn't install this shock on a normal max. unless of course there's a difference in the actual exterior of the shock itself. anyway, the reason i ask is because i've never seen one in peron, and i know they're rare. any info would be greatly appreciated. . ..

yes I understand your point

As we are looking for the right struts for our maxima.. I also am wondering why the Tokicos Illuminas are made for the electronic adjustable suspension. Why can we use these struts in regular maxima's? Its wierd Does anyone have a solution to our problem.? Seems like its all the same, and why not just bolt up and have us manually adjust the struts instead of an machine adjusting the suspension..

if they're continuously adjustable like the older supra's, i understand, but i dont' see why we can't slap em in, and set em up. unless like i said, they have some type of electronics IN or ON the shock itself. . . . . . my service manual has nothing about this suspension too.. . .

yeah wouldn't that be tight if all we needed was some type of motor/actuator rigged up to each one or and wired to a switch.....I doubt its that easy but it would awesome if it was!! but the sonar supspension was a little more complex than that...

well how bout you explain how it's more complex. i'd love to know.

don't quote me, but I think this is how Sonar II works....if I'm correct when you place it in whichever mode, it adjusts ITSELF to the road conditions and maintain stability. so I think if you're in "sport mode" and you go into a deep corner fast, the suspension will adjust it self accordingly through the turn to provide proper stbility....so actually its more complex than just making one adjustment and leaving it at that, it makes adjustments in "real time"....but this only my guess from what I've heard about it, I might be totally wrong.

yeah, but what makes the adjustment in the shock. . . it's cool if you don't know, i'm just tossing this out there. I mean, if it's just an actuator that turns an internal lever, there should be a way to set the shock on a specific setting. i can't imagine there's actually internal electronics in the shock. . . .

well from what I see/read in my Haynes, basically where the top of our strut housing is located there is a actuator and a wiring harness connected to it(which most likely goes to the ECU ans elector switch), all I can think of is that you press the selector, the actuator activates, buils pressure and "contratcs" or "retracts" the piston in the shock, but I know I heard there is some type of "feedback" involved, which allows the system to self adjust itself according to road and driving condition...BAH...I dunno interesting topic though!

actually let me retract that...I think it simply builds up more or less preesure against the piston, maiking it stiffer or softer....someone actually knowledgeable of this help us out!

So you want factory adjustables. Steal them from a Z32. Then remove the flanges from it and transfer them from the old maxima struts. Then add the strut computer and its wiring harness (not so easy) and your done. Or get some AGX's off a DSM or Z32 and modify those the same way for the fronts. The rears would take just alittle bit more R&D .

i was actually gonna look at the 4th gen AGX's, someone said the fronts are close, but the rears aren't. . . . .
