'93 auto trans into a '94

Will an automatic transmission from a 1993 Maxima swap into my wifes 1994 Maxima, 3.0 V6 SOHC ? A yard operator says perhaps the neutral safety switch wiil have to be exchanged, but otherwise it's a direct swap. Does anyone have experiance with this? Are the transmissions on the 1994's a known weak point? Thanks for any help,
Ynot

If both of the trans are from a sohc motor they should bolt up. I read somewhere(I think on here) that the older transmissions were very weak but after 92 they were a little better...this may have been just someones opinion but I cant remember.

Thanks for the info. The used trans I've found is alleged to have only 46,000 miles on it, I'm hoping everything will be OK.
Thanks Again,

Yes, all 92-94's are interchangable. I don't know if they interchange between engines, but I'm pretty sure they do.

Dont think they do from dohc to sohc...but I am not sure. I know I have seen people ask if the dohc would work on the sohc and I think the general consensus is that it will not. I don't know from personal or professional experiance though, but just what I read.

If you have a SOHC to SOHC it will work. But do not attempt to swap a DOHC for a SOHC. If you stick to the same DOHC to DOHC, SOHC to SOHC, you will not have a problem.

Thanks to all who have replied. This is my wife's car, it just started acting up during the return part of a 250 mile trip. I've checked the archives for this group and have seen the virtues of a trans flush. We are going to do this and see if conditions improve. I want her to be secure, however the absolute best price I've found is $750 for a used unit, then I have to go get it (3 to 4 hour round trip) and install this puppy. Her car is a '94, the used piece is from a '93 with 45,000 according to the yard. The help and information from this forum is excellant, I've gotten some very good advice from the Mazda 323 GTX group that I frequent also. The brotherhood of mechanics, it's great! A good holiday to all and I'll be in touch,
Ynot
