Accident

Well, I got in a wreck today. Not in my car (Un)Luckily. I was driving my mother's Infiniti G-20 in a residential area at the speed limit (35) and I saw a white Chrysler Concorde pull up to a stop sign and come to a compltete stop about 100 feet away. When I was about 30 feet away she just pulled right out and I nailed her Driver's side. Because it was raining, I slid that last 30-50 feet and I couldn't avoid it. She spun around and stopped and I just came to a dead stop it the middle of the road.

My Damage: No physical damage to myself, front bumper almost to front doors, cracked engine mounts, bent/broken transmission linkage, bent front (trans)axle, possibly bent frame.

Hers: Bruises and scratches, bent door, bent rim, bent rear axle, possibly bent frame.

Here's where the Irony is: a) I took hers cause I couldn't find my keys. b) The drive was only 5 blocks c) Her car does NOT have collision insurance. (My Max does)

Both of our cars are totalled, and I'll find out how much the Insurance will pay for ours by wednesday. This would have been a really good time for me to have gotten in a wreck in my own car. For one, it would have taken the hit alot better, being a lot larger and becuase I have liability, comprehensive, and collision on it. I am happy however that we both walked away from it because READ: 35MPH doesnt sound very fast, but it is very fast when you're in a vehicle hitting another vehicle. Take it from me. So um, yeah. I'm so screwed

No, it wasn't my fault because I was going the speed limit, and she was supposed to be stopped. Apparently she just didn't see my car (Dark grey).

so since it was her fault, shouldnt her insurance company pay for the damages to your mothers car regardless if your mother has insurance or not?

Oddly enough, there were no cops there. Also there's no way that it could have possibly been my fault except if I was speeding, but I wasn't. Even then, comparative liability prevails. In Oregon you have to go submit a written report if there is bodily injury or more than $1000 damage, which there is on my car alone. It was like a ten minute deal though. Just exchanged names, insurance info, and waited for the tow truck. Hopefully she has collision insurance on her vehicle which SHOULD cover my car. We are looking to get another G-20 of the same year or maybe a little newer because according to my dad its the best car we've ever owned.

When you guys get into accidents, especially one where the car gets banged up pretty bad, please do yourself a favor and call the police. When you have to file reports with the insurance companies they can try to be very sly about the whole thing and get the blame pinned on you regardless. If you really don't feel the need to do this then at least get the other party to sign some paper describing what happened and who was at fault. The police report is ultimately the best thing and will protect you when it's time to settle the bill.
