Speed "Sender" or "Sensor"?

Like everyone else my speedo died about a year ago, and I have finally decided to fix it. I called Courtesy and they said the Speed Sender was 112 bucks and bolted on the tranny. I thought all was well but this guy at the Nissan dealer near my house said I needed a speed sensor and it mounted behind the wheel... which one do I need to get? I have heard both terms used all over the place in the forum and searching has given me mixed results.

More than likely it's the one on the tranny. I've never heard of one behind the wheel.
