stock cd player?

ive noticed that the cd player that comes from the factory is a sony. does anybody know if its the same unit that toyota uses in its older camry? my friend had a camry with a factory cd player and it looked the same. ive been looking for a factory cd player but i can find one. could i also broaden my search by looking for toyota parts too? thanks

In my '92 SE the CD player was a dealer installed option added to the BOSE System. It says Sony but if you look closely it is actually made by Clarion for Sony. You may find a similar Clarion unit that may work properly.

One of the first things I didn't like about it was that its green instrument lighting doesn't really match other instrument lighting in the car.

Also has a glitch that on cold days, first time I use it, it will play OK for exactly 1 minute and 2 seconds and then go silent for about 3-4 seconds and come back on OK for the rest of the day. Have also had to bring it to the shop twice when it wouldn't eject CDs. A tiny switch in the unit had to be replaced both times. Also in a third time when it wouldn't play at all.

So much for "Sony" quality, but then again, I guess its not really a Sony after all.
