Question on the A/C System

I'm trying to figure out the small metallic pipe that runs from the radiator along the left side of the battery terminal and ends at a black clyindrical thing (I have the VG model btw). Is the metallic pipe the refrigerant line? and is the black cylinder the drier? Can I easily replace the pipe? I ask because it looks like there is a small hole in it and the A/C compressor is not kicking in. Thanks.

It was dark outside when i looked at it so I made some description errors. The pipe im talking about runs from what looks like the drier... it's between the battery and the radiator. Then the pipe runs all the way to the firewall and runs across the firewall then enters through the firewall on the left side of the engine bay. It looks like it is bolt-on and could be replaced easily. Does anyone parting out their car have this part?

It's ok to replace the AC line with a used one. But do yourself a favor and put in a new (oem) drier. Put in on last when everything else is in place. Before you put on the new drier, test your system for leaks with the old drier.

Driers suck up moisture like a sponge (that's what they are designed to do). But it is to absorb any traces in your system, not the humidity of the outside air. Therefore install the drier last. The (oem) units will actually have a vacuum under the soft protector plugs. DON'T be tempted to remove these plugs until you are ready to install it.

Good luck,
John
