I notice a grinding noise on the front brakes of my Maxima when I apply them from time to time and I am wondering what could be causing it. I took it to one shop already and they determined that the pads did not need to be replaced because I had over 70% on the front pads.

Bother to check the rears? Don't take it to a shop, just pull your rear tires off and inspect them.

Maybe rust

on your disks. It's often after driving in the rainy day or carwash when your car sits for all night.
Or some pads material cause this grinding noise.
