manual to automatic conversion

Hey all. I'm new to the forum here. I got a question for the crowd here. Before you think I'm nuts.....let me explain. I live in Chicago and I commute in stop and go traffic daily and the 5 speed that I had b4 I got here is driving me nuts. I like my car too much to trade it in.....So I was looking at a conversion to an auto matic. I'm trying to think of the things I need. Here is the list I came up with:

Tranny(of course) with the torque converter
Flywheel(I think a new starter too-Anyone know??)
new axles
shifter mechanism and linkage
Plugs for the firewall from the removal of the clutch pedal
Tranny Mounts??
Tranny Cooler

So, What am I missing here guys?

Also, does anyone have the hard parts that they would sell or trade for the conversion? I know Matt you said you had parts from your parts car. do you have all of this stuff and does the VG sutff bolt up to the VE? Where are you at?

Thanks

Re: manual to automatic conversion

Being that the auto tranny's are so crappy, your WAY better off with a manual. Imagine paying for all those parts, then a few months now you have to get a new auto tranny, it happens.

You will also need a ecu. I read a post on another board that you can put a manual in a auto without changing the ecu but not the other way around because there needs to be something to run the auto trans.

Also the 92 up transmissions I think are a little better than the older ones (from reading posts)

That makes sense aw. Because the automatic needs the wiring for the vehicle speed sensor.

I will swap

Hey man I am looking for a manual 5 speed for my 91 gxe. If you want to trad I have an automatic with under 50k on it. This could be the deal of a lifetime for both of us. Contact me at jmrader@yahoo.com
We could also swap gear shifter linkage and ECU's.
