I'm gettin my tranny converted in a week or two. I've had my tranny rebuilt about ten times a shop near where I live. They agreed to put a 5-speed in it instead of replacing my tranny with another auto. I hope everything goes well. So far they have all the parts ready I just need to get home from school. If you talk to the shop they can probably cut you a deal, since most 5-speeds are cheaper to replace than auto's. I know that there is one guy on the board who has done the swap already. He can tell you just what it involves. Good luck.

Its easier to sell your car and buy a 5spd...

The approximate 3,000$ you will spend on the conversion are not worth it. 5-speeds are usually cheaper then automatics, you can sell your auto, and with the same money get a nice 5spd, then take the 3k $ you stashed for the conversion and spend them on serious performance mods. However, if you really love your car, you can have it done for the right $.

My auto tranny is a pain in the *** as well, only 95k miles now, had the rebuilt at 86k, and I thought about a conversion aswell, before I found out the price.

Look up Need4pwr. He did this, nice! In his words, with all the money already in the car, it was just cheaper and easier to change the transmission from auto to manual. So, if you have a lot in the car, do the conversion. If you don't have anything in the car that can't be removed and readded on the new 5sp, then I say sell the car and buy a true 5 sp. By the way, you may want to go ahead and consider buying a progammed ecu to boost hp, cuase you have to change it anyway when changing trannies!
