hey- i'm looking at a y-pipe, exhaust system and CAI, but everything i hear is that these mods improve high end HP but you must pay the price with some low end TQ. i know i need more torque, and without buying a new cam, how can i increase power in the low-mid range? i already know the max is quick in high end (fuel cutoff *cough *cough) i dont expect to launch like a 'vette, but i'm trying not to sacrifice my low end! suggestions, anyone?

WELL....

If youre starving for torque like me(and are kinda crazy), I'd head the NOS way(at least I plan to next summer)!! 40-50 shot will give you a good launch and put you in the 14-low 15's at the track!!! best bang for the buck mod in my opinion you can't beat a REAL 40-50hp increase for $500+/-(not including install and extras)!!!!

i'm afraid of the bottle. explosions, engine abuse, cost of nitrous. what ever i get should not shorten the life of the vehicle.

I understand your fear...

but NOS is totally safe on a well maintained engine especially at low shots like 40-50!!! the explosion you're talking about(if the one in the Maxima) was tottaly driver fualt!!! its sad to see NOS get a bad wrap off that when it was an Nitrous Express system to begin with and not to mention his fault for FORGETTING TO TURN OFF THE WARMER!!! OUCH!!! but like I said if your starvung for torque or as crazy as I and many others are!!!

i noticed a big help in low end pick up when i replaced my flywheel with a lightend one(stillen).

although it costs about as much as a nitrious kit.
thats one direction you can go.
of course you can replace the y-pipe that should help alot even though it might give you more top end it has to give you more low end also just because of the bigger piping and free flow design.

Other than a catback exhaust and/or cams other mods increase torque. But I did notice in my car at least the UDP provided more lowend torque. Also the JWT ECU will do the samething just on a greater scale . To sum it up, intake, Y pipe, UDP and ECU should have you wiht more lowend torque thatn you started with.
