Hey All,

I've got an 89 GXE with 155K miles. I want to take it in and change the tranny fluid. First question: is the filter kit replaced during this procedure? And lastly, what are people's recommendations for fluid. I don;t race my max, therefore there's no need for Royal Purple.

Thanks!

the filter on our tranny is an internal metal screen- there's no need to change it. In fact, you'd have to completely remove the tranny to get to it from what I've been told.

as for fluids, I recommend using a decent grade of synthetic. I'm using Valvoline SynPower.. I use the stuff in the blue bottle, but there's another type in a red bottle.. I forget what it is.. "high mileage/ save this tranny so I can sell the car before it blows" type of stuff.. not real sure. the Blue stuff is about $2.50/qt. not too bad for synthetic fluid.
