Need For Speed?

I love driving fast, I can't help it. I love the roar from my CAI but this $575 speeding ticket is telling me something else. Should I de-mod my car in hopes of me driving slower? I'm not sure what to do. I can't help driving fast.

Wish i drove slower, too. Somehow, I haven't gotten caught yet, but at 17, the increase in my insurance is more of a concern than the cost of an actual ticket.

Agreed. It wasn't until the last year or two that I slowed down and I'm 25 I still speed all the time (5-10 mph over the limit), but I am much more "stealth" and safe about it by finding the right times and places to really speed.

They need to develop...

..."Speed management" classes instead of anger management classes.

...and I'm not talking about Traffic School that show Driver's Ed films from 1964 to 1977.

I know what you mean. When I first started driving I never went faster than 10 over the limit. Now I find it so hard to do and being 18 just one ticket will up my insurance so much. I only excessively speed when I'm almost sure there are no cops because theres no place for them to hide and I've been successful but I have a feeling I'm gonna get caught one of these days.

WOW, you definetly need to de-mod you car, and give those mods to me, ill keep the cops on my tail while you drive around same and sound, sounds like a plan to me!

take a piece of wood 2"x4"x4" and epoxy it under your gas pedal. that should keep the cops away.

$575?

We need to get you a Geo Metro and find some way to permanently engage the "Econ" mode so that you can't change it back to get its full 30hp

Oh, you'll learn when you go broke. Especially if you're paying for your insurance. I chilled out quite a bit after I took the "you can only take this once a lifetime" 8-hour defensive driving class we have here twice (court order the second time). Now at night, I actually go the speed limit wherever. During the day, 5-10mph over usually, every once in a while going through a gear and taking it up to about 15-20mph over.

I second this. I am now 22 and I used to drive like a nutball! I still do sometimes but I am constantly thinking about being pulled over. 9 times out of 10 this thought process brings me back down to the speed limit.

I'm 27 and I always drive on the freeways (65 limit) with my speedo pointing to 80mph. This is actuall 75mph of roadspeed, tested by my GPS and by timing myself between milemarkers.

The only time I drive slower than that on the freeway is if it's bad weather, or if there are other cars around I'll just go with the flow. I don't go faster than that unless I need to get past a clump of traffic to a merge or sumfin.

although there was this one time (not at band camp) where I drove my mum to an Ice Hockey tournament she was later for and travelled about 200 miles at 115mph... Never saw a single cop. Also, after getting my visa to come to the US I drove from London to Manchester at 110mph all the way overnight (about 250-ish miles as I recall) - cops didn't look twice at me - prolly 'cos I was the only one of the road.
