Clutch----ACT...Read !!

Well now that my ACT is broken in I can truly test it out...But I really think a part of my Hydrolic system is f*ed up cause when I quick shift from 3 to 4 or 4 to 5, under light load (3K RPMS) regular driving I get a skip in the clutch, then it settles down...I guess its part of my hydrolic system showing age ? Do they show age ?? any feedback would be greatly appreciated...Im bringing it to the guy on Sat. that put it in and Im gonna have him look at it...Im still getting a slight "grinde" when I release 1st that I also have to get looked at...Ive been on the phone with ACT, I may have a faulty model...or the install was done wrong

Yeah, hydraulic master and slave unit seals and fluid will age, but it's more likely they'll lead to engagement problems, not a slipping problem which I think you are describing. The hydraulics move the clutch friction plate into the pressure plate and away from the flywheel. If you have no hydraulics and your clutch is good, it's like a direct engine-tranny connection with no slippage and very hard to shift gears, unless you're good at rev-matching the engine to the tranny speed.

Mine does the same thing. . . Someone mentioned that adjusting the clutch pedal would cure it, but I did that and it was still there. I have just over 1K on my clutch and it grabs hard when pushed but as you said it seems to slip real quick on 2-3 and 3-4 shifts on my car at about 3K, and only at about 3K. I know my slave cylinder is fine as it was replaced a couple months ago. If you find out anything please post more. . . This has been bothering me also, although I don't have the rough engagements in 1st gear like you do.

I think it has something to do with the Hydrolic system....on my buddys stock 95 with 105K on it, it doesnt do it at all...I shift every witch way fast and it doesnt skip. I just think both of are clutchs need to be adjusted...mines is going in on Tuesday.

I'm sorry to hear about the continued problems Matty. I was recommending the ACT in every thread you posted. Mine has been great and has around 7,000 miles on it. I'll also say that I have a 95 w/ 133,000 miles and aside from replacing the fluid, my hydraulic system is still all original. I wish you luck and hope it is nothing major. I did notice that I needed to add a little bit of hydraulic fluid to my resevoir once after the ACT went in. Also, I adjusted the pedal per my FSM and everything has been fine. I only adjusted the pedal because I thought it had too much free play - not because I was having any problems w/ the clutch. The engagement took me a little while to get used to but, now it's incredible and I love this clutch. Hope you come out feeling the same. Hope the guy that installed it stands by his work. I would think a clutch was pretty easy to build and control quality on so I'm assuming another part has failed, or there was a problem w/ the install. Good luck and keep us posted.

Toolrocks...

Aside from the engadment problem I am having, thats minor...Im gonna have him look at it...the main problem I am having is a grinding sound when I engage 1st and reverse...Not the actual shift into first, its the the actual clutch up and beginning to roll forward I feel and hear a slight grinde while the clutch is engaging into first, and to boot it only happens from a complete stop...It Never happens when Im rolling or in any other gear whats-so-ever...I really dont know what this is...its been doing this since I got the new ACT clutch in but the grinding has gotten alot better since it was installed, but still no totally gone...It may be the clutch still breaking in maybe but it already has 1200k miles on it and the noise is definetly noticable. Im soo scared. I been talking to ACT about it and he told me to call him back if its still there after 1000k miles...I called him back yesterday and he said the only thing he can think of is my 1st gear syncrois are shot...I dont think this is true...I think its the throwout bearing that ACT sent me is defective

I don't think the car has syncros in 1st or reverse. . . I think Chung posted something about that in another post.

Also do you know if your flywheel was warped at all when the clutch was replaced, before it was turned? My car, for some reason, seems to be eating flywheels (the last one was brand new when the clutch was replaced the time before). I am just wondering this problem might have something to do with that.

Mine has that noise and it's beginning to really irritate me. My clutch is well broken in now and it still does it the same as the day it was first put in. I know it wasn't the install because I did and took my time. I'd love to figure out what it is.

I just installed a JWT clutch wih lightened flywheel, I get a slight chattering/grinding noise in first only when I am stopped dead. Otherwise, everything is perfect. I screwed up my wheel bearing, cos I forgot to tighten the axle nut, but it's all good now!

I did have a bad thumping/chattering sound when my ACT was first installed. I traced it back to my Stillen bracket that holds the filter in place. When the engine is "rocking" in the engine bay it tugs on the intake and its plumbing. It would then in turn pull on the bracket, that was hitting a metal line that runs right beside the base of the bracket. I have a 95 and it was a line that ran to the A/C condensor. Hope this helps some.

I had mine done about 1500 miles ago and it sems like mine slip also every once in while, so I'm going in next week to have them adjust it. Also I don't know if you are suppose to be able to do this but when it's in a certain gear, let's say 3rd I can move it to 2nd without engaging the cluth at all, should I be able to do this?
