Idle speed correction didn't work

I tried increasing the idle speed on my 97 maxima. I followed the instuctions on http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/
and when I disconnected the throttle position sensor harness, it reved up like it was suppose to, but when it came down it stalled. It did it every time I tried it. So I tried adjusting the idle speed screw when the car was off...I turned it 1/2 a turn counter clockwise, but it didn't do anything. Anyone have any suggestions?
