I'm getting rims for my 96 max, but am not sure what size is best. I want to make my car look nice, but don't want to put on too much weight. What's the ideal size for racing?

 

17x7.5's are great for racing; wider traction footprint and better looking than stock. 18x8's are nice if you can find a set that's not too heavy, so look for a style that has open space in the design(most 5,6,7-spoke), i.e. less metal.
