Maxima vs. '02 Civic Si

Anyone raced a 2002 Civic Si? They all come with 5speed. 160HP/132lb-ft, 2744lbs.
I have a '97 Maxima 5speed.
Who do you think would win?

according to NADA july 2002 which i have right in front of me, maxima:

190 hp(which you already know)
3012 lbs minimum gxe
torque somewhere around 200 lbs/ft., it doesn't list it

do the math, then race him anyway

Well looking at the search results, supposedly the older models run high 15s. So this question isn't THAT ridiculous...

I saw two, 2002 civic Si's run last friday at the local dragway. The silver one ran a 15.9 sec and the black one a 16.2 sec. With the mods I have and a less than stellar 2.4 sec 60' time I ran a 15.1 sec.

uh guys...he's obviously interested in racing one but he wants to know what to expect ahead of time...telling him to just go race one is pointless...if he wanted to find out first hand by racing one then he wouldn't have started this thread....duurrr

Civic?....bah!

I think you will rip him a new ahole if you have the basic bolt-ons. Civic's aren't in our league! Shouldn't be comparing that inferior car to the Max. The Accord V6 on the other hand is a good match up for the Max. Let the Civics and the 240SXs duke it out. BTW Go 240SX!

Team Nissan!

the new civic si are SLOW, friend of mine has a 99 civic si and eh raced one, and its no contest at all. The b16 civic si were much faster than the newer ones. I race my friend all the time, i have a 2000SE automatic, and with his current mods and my current mods, he beats me by about 1 car in the quarter, and thats all down to how he drives it, if he makes on mistake, i win. so like i said, 2002 si = slooooooooooow

I have a 99SE 5spd, bone stock, and have raced my friends 99 Si, and the Max can take it. Best race was pulling onto a long, long entrance ramp, he was in front, I right on his tail. We both nail it in second gear, and by the time I shifted to third, I was beside him (ramp was two lanes wide). By the time I shifted to fourth, I had about 1 car on him. I didn't destroy him, but since I was a car length behind to start - not too bad.

Like anything, it can come down to the drivers, but I would think that usually the Max should win.

Heh...you would *think* so, wouldn't you?

I honestly have no idea why 99% of these "Maxima Vs. _____!!!!" threads are started. Maybe in the case that something drastic is on the line, but in that case, all things are usually a little more serious - ie, the competitor won't let you peek under the hood, the cars involved usually run 13s or under, etc.

If you're just curious, go out and find out for yourself. I honestly think people just want to start generic conversations. and this is an easy outlet. Which isn't such a bad thing imo, but I think there is a line of "too much"...

I need to go test drive one of those Si's just to experience the in-column elevated shifter

Yes the new one is slower than old, the times I saw were like 0-60 was 7.6 sec or something like that. it was in a recent issue of one of the mags.

Yes, you are exactly right. My coworker recently purchased one. My initial opinion was I would dust him easily, but as I started reading older posts I found out that older SIs run in high 15s. This one is new model which has more torque then the priveous year's. And yes, I will try to race him, just for fun, in about 10 days after my car gets out of body shop. (I recently got rearended)
Thanks for the replies.

Not to bash this mans post but is pointless to start a thread like this what happens if I race my boys 1966 Mustang with Nitrous?

Who will win if I race RJ De Veras S/Ced Honda S2000?

I see no point in asking, I dont like to do it, even when I was NA I would just go out and duke it out and then post the results for everyone to see now thats fun to read In life you can not win them all whether it be racing or fist fighting, just go out there and give it your best thats it!!!
