is my auto dead yet?

works fine ....except...for 1st gear, under very light starts it shifts fine ( below 3k rpm shift) but anytime you try and actually jump off the line with it, it'll hold the gear for a good 5-7 seconds- even after letting off the gas- before it shifts...then it works fine for the rest of the shifting...if you try to mash it around 40mph or so it just kicks down into redline for a few seconds untill it dumps into first -like a neutral drop ... my cars a 95 se with almost 165,ooo miles... soo is it time to start looking for 5sp swap?
