I Got Smoked By A Lincoln!
I wasn't really sure what kinda lincoln it was but it was a two door lincoln. I think it was a Mark8. That is what my friend told me. Anyhow, we were driving down a highway and I pass him. I figured it was an old guy driving a lincoln so I didnt think anything of it next I know he is sitting beside me in a quick minute. So, I figured I'd pace'em till we get to the next light. Sure enough we did. To make a short story even shorter I hit the gas and looked up, @ 30 he was two cars infront of me, so I was like forget it. So, he cruises back and gives me a rolling start @ 50mph and he started bouncing up and down like he was playing with the gas while I was @ full throttle then I heard him break loose and he was gone. OH MY GOD. Anybody know what lincolns of distinction is? He had that around his tag.

Attack of the speed boat
Boats? Blowers? Good god man don't feel bad the first time you guys get by one at a light/track. Like for instance would you test this?
http://www.maxrpm.com/lmstagnew16notext.jpg
and he runs a 13.44@102.993 with a 1.81 60ft. NA
All bolt ons no internals, no bottle either.
So, to all may the force be with you if you think they're boats.

I've reamed a Mark VIII here. If memory serves correct the have a 4.6L V8 making something like 280-290HP. Sounds like a lot, but with 3700lbs I'd be surprised if they broke 7 seconds for 0-60.

has the same motor as a mustang so any bolt ons a a stang will be ez bolt ons for the lincoln so it would be very ez to sneak up on ppl in one of dem thangs

The Mark8 is a 32valve silky v-8(quick)
The Mark7 is a 225hp mustang motored, breakdown factory(not quick)
No Lincoln is supercharged.
I did feel like a pimp in my old MKVII, and a poor pimp at the Ford dealer..

Did some more research
I am really intrested in this beast. I did some more research and found out that it is equipped with the DOHC, 32 Valve, 290 hp, 4.6 liter engine similar to the one found in the 96-98 Cobra Mustangs and has a 3.27 rear axle ration an AODE automatic transmission. Few mods here and there and you got a 13 sec. car. To think "ITS A LINCOLN!" I have alot of respect for these cars. Doing MORE research I found out that they did make a force inducted MK8, they only made accouple prototypes and here is a example. I had to dig hard for this
ENJOY!
ENJOY!

I have a 1996 Mark VIII, aside from my Max, and that thing has got some power to it. I've seen some of those out at the tracks pushing 9's in the 1/4 mile. Of course the guy had $$...converted the whole thing into a 6-speed, using a Supra transmission. Pretty nasty!
#17
honestly if my mark VII had a T-5(5speed) I would have kept it.
They are bad *** if you do alot of work, but what car isn't>?
They could be looked at as heavy mustangs with class(?) The best part would be the rareity of a quick "Hot Rod Lincoln"...anyone remember this tune.?

I remember the first time I ever saw a new VIII, I was on my way to school in an '84 subaru GL-10 (non-turbo model, unfortunately) and I came to an all way stop just about the time the VIII did. I went first, and he thought he should have so he just went around me!
I was pretty surprised to see something like that whip off moves like cars half it's size. I guess that's why when I see them now I love to try to play with them a little. There's a dark (green, or black?) one I've stoplight raced here, and I pulled a good half car length on it from dead stop to about 70. This was also before my CAI.
I was also ahead the entire time, so perhaps they don't have the low end tourque american V8's are known for. If it is the same engine as the Mustang, this would appear to make sense, as from what I've heard the current generation V8's in the GT's are better than those of the last gen. (I respect the 5.0 from gens past, and this is not the engine I am referring to).
Then again who's to say he really tried his hardest? It was loud I'll give it that much - but perhaps there was more power that wasn't tapped into until he saw me take off so fast!

I've raced one....
My brother had a 95 Mark VIII, and we raced a couple times. The first time, I launched good and beat him. The second time, he beat me because I screwed up my 1st-2nd shift. The third time, I barely beat him. So, whoever launches first and gets in front usually wins. Those Mark VIII's run sub-7 sec 0-60 stock.....

just goes to show, American cars are the fastest...anyone lookiong for 100% speed is in the wrong forum and has the wrong car...yea NSX and all are fast stock but when u get the hooking up, even without boost, i know a 67 mustang that will rock any car in today's generation....but they are just so ugly!
get mad props but no b*tches....

Hey guys, I am a Lincoln Mark VII owner, an 88. Just because our cars are boats doesn't mean that we can't make them fast. These cars have great looks and can be heavily modified. I'me not here to make fun of your cars or anything like that... I believe that anyone has their own interests wether it be a "ricer" cross country, hot rod, etc... you get my point. But anyway just wanted to post something since one of your cars got toasted by a Lincoln, was just interested in it

hey ANEMITY
what are your times? (1/4) Your car look fine I had a silver 88 MK7 I loved it and was ready to do it up like yours. Did you replace the bags with springs>? I was ready for that and a mustang S/C kit..But I replaced the tranny and ...and...and..then the car was still worth $3000...So I dumped it.. I love the looks of the MK7, but you either do or dont.
later..

Good ol' American torque plays a major role in that race. American cars have been known to use detuned race engines in all of their production vehicles. With a little bit of work, you can turn them back to their natural roots. Its no major feat to me when I hear posts like these. The only thing that can impress me is if you can build a motor not intended for race use, and make it fast. That's something that no domestic fan can do.

Those dragstrip runs are "sweet".
I thought about getting a MarkVIII. They have the 4 valve per cylinder heads like a Mustang Cobra. They are detuned a bit for the automagic and have a more restrictive exhaust.
In my brief research, I was put off by the airbag suspension. It is fairly expensive to repair.

The expense is high only if you dont konw the alternative routes of ordering and repair. No need to pay dealer price when you can get aftermarket or go to SVPU.com and order them there. Then again there is always the coil spring conversion. BigAnt, you have a really nice Moose Lodge.

You got me thinking now. I've seen a couple good buys on MarkIIIs and would look real good in one. I've got to do more research on the air bag repair cost or spring replacement.
Of course, I keeping the MAX!

Yes I was looking into the kits while I had my 7...
get rid of the bags, get a built tranny, pray no electrical problems come up and build that engine up...add a lower gear and you are set...

Hey LSC-GT,
Your LSC brings back fond memories of my Lincoln. Sharp car you will be in the 14's soon right>?
nothing against the 11sec MK7, but the hood and wheels are too much to keep the class(sleeper look) of the car...does he have a 351 in that>?
Thanks for stopping by.
