Getting Black "Gum" stuff off my car?

I got a 97 GXE i like bought 6 months ago, and when i bought it, it came with these UGLY looking black vinaly (or rubber) looking strips along the fenders, (they like are on the edge of the wheel well) they look so ****ie and plus they make my car appear so much higher.....i can peel them off but then theres like this black gummy stuff or like tar stuff that's there to hold the strip in place....i used bug and tar remover to get it off but it like gets some of it off but theres still like a stain left there where u can tell what used to be there..i also got some of those black rubber pices on the edge of my all my doors on the car...they come in handy in case sum1 in my car is a idiot and swings the door open too fast and hits something but they still make my car look like a old persons car and i wanna get rid of em....what can i use to get them like completely off without any residue left?

fingernail polish remover.
Others might say it harms the paint. I have used it for years, and it works better, and is cheaper than anything on the market.

Try washing it off with dish soap. What won't come off with dish
soap you can try getting off with a solvent like GoofOff or something
similar. Immediately wash the area again to remove the solvent. Now
use some 3M Hang Glaze or Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze. Use light
pressure and repeat as needed. Don't try to shortcut by pressing
harder. Once you're done with the glaze step I'd suggest a polish
and then a wax but at a minimum you'll need to wax the area right
away. The dish soap is really hard on your finish too. So even if
you stop there, make sure you wax the area right away.
