Help with sound....Quick!

I just got home, and I pulled into the garage and shut the door. When I got outta my car, the strangest noise was emitting from the rear of the car... underneath the car... almost like it's coming from the gas tank. It's too hard to describe on the internet, but I'm afraid that it sounds like a fuel pump coming on and the off very sporatically and quickly kinda like the sound a squeaking donkey would make...(picture the Hee-Haw that a donkey makes, and then make it a little more like a squeak of the shocks). It just keeps doing it.
I've tried starting the car, driving the car, and tapping around underneath the car, (on the gas tank and other things, in case a float in the tank has gotten stuck, and was causing some kind of false signal to the pump, making it go on and off even without poser to the ignition). Really strange.

Can anyone help me or does anyone have a clue as to what this sound is? I'm afraid it's gonna run down my battery and I won't have anyway to get to work in the morning.

Help!

does it sound like a mosquito but only lower? I have that sound and I was thinking it was from the pressure in the gas tank relieving. Not shure really.

It's not a hissing noise, but much more like a sporatic squeaking. It has an electrical sound almost similar to the fuel pump on my motorcycle when I first turn on the key and it kicks on. But it would be the sound of it kicking on and off...on and off again.

It's pretty constant, but if I could figure it out, I could fix it!

Yeah, that may be the sound, but mine consistantly did this on and off again thing for about 20 minutes. It finally stopped, but I'm concerned with the origin of the sound.

Mine does this too, but it seems for quite a long time. Anyone know for sure what this is? I can't have a dying fuel pump while on the bottle.

Probably just the psi bleeding from the tank. I think it goes through a solenoid or something and it might be hanging up. Probably normal for a hot day.........
