Cracked Tailight when clearing out...question
Cracked Tailight when clearing out...question
Oh joy. I put a nice size crack in one of my tailights when separating the lense from the housing. Is there anyway to HIDE the crack? Looking straght on it is hardly noticable. You can see it at an angle. I am gonna try to put Super Glue in the crack to try and hide it and keep it sealed...anyone else have this prob or can help me? Thanks alot
Yes, but it is soooo easy to do yourself. Only reason why mine cracked is cause I forgot to take ou the 5 set screws....I was wondering why it wasnt coming apart...Anyway I use the boiling hot water route instead of the heat gun...If i had to do it again, I could do it perfect...stupid little screws......haha

It kinda makes sense though...just more info would help us alot thanx!!
Sorry for the delay.....yeah, you obviously dont want to do this in the middle of the living room. I boiled like 3 tea kettles full and then pour the water around the edges of the lense while it was in the sink. Make sure to prop the tailight up so that the water runs down it and you dont burn your fingers trying to hold it...After that just pry it open with your fingers. It takes a little effort to get it started coming apart, but after that its easy. Just go slow and make sure those little set screws are out!! Unless you like cracked lights. Didnt warp my lense or anything... I think it is way safer and easier than using a heat gun. May have to use a heat gun when I go to put them back together though....
I am opening up my altezza's tonight and paint the chrome pearl white to match the body....I think its gonna look tight..

Best method...
Best and proven way to open up your tails is to remove the screws and place it on a aluminum foil sheet in an oven for 7 minutes at 200 degrees. When closing them back up, repeat the same method but leave it in for only about 3-4 minutes. No need for a heat gun or boiling water and is pretty safe as long as you don't overheat them which is more than 7 minutes. I've done several maxima tails including the ones on my homepage.
yeah, I remember those 5 little screws. funny thing is I remembered to take out the screw for the first tail and forgot about the second. for the second tail, I was like why the outer piece didn't come off and I tried so hard and almost broke it. Then I remebered the screws. lucky.
