buying a 95 max se
Im going to buy a 95 se stick; it has 95k on it ,and the owner is asking 6,200 hundred for it. Does that sound like a deal; the car has a dark blue color and the owner says it's in perfect condition. You think i could bring the price down a couple hundred. Right now I own a 92 se fully loaded with everythin, but a stick.
thank you im new to this forum

you could probably talk the guy down. i got a 95 se stick about a month ago. perfect condition. the guy wanted $6300 but i talked him down to $5000! (the miles were a little high, and he was super desperate to get it off the road). so you should be able to do it. good luck.

Re: buying a 95 max se
I bought my 95 auto for $7200.
had alpine & polks, leather, and 79K.
Check transmission, clutch, and engine.
If these work fine, great.
If any of these sound weak, uh, you have to think about it.
And try to look for any uneven balance in the hood area. If it's been a wreck, cut $1000-1500.
good luck.

6200 seems a little high - but if the car has been well maintained and has a documented/complete maintenance history then it's worth it. never underestimate the value of proper maintenance. so how do you know if it's been well cared for? looking at the exterior of the car will not tell you much.
a few tips (mostly engine related)....
- first, ask for any and all maintenance records. if they are not complete (e.g. you cannot track every oil change and all scheduled maintenance items) then lower your bid.
- next, look inside the oil filler cap with a flash light - inspect carefully. a little varnish is ok, but you should still see mostly bare metal everywhere. if you see lots of black build up, or white frothy stuff, stay away from this car!
- check the spark plugs! this only takes a few minutes and will tell you a lot about the health of the engine. oily plugs, or lots of deposits - walk away!
- inspect the coolant. it should be dark green and clean. if it is not, do not buy the car!
- check the exhaust for thick white or blue smoke (burning oil or coolant). if you see it, walk away.
- if you are not mechanically inclined, take it to a shop and pay them $50-100 to inpect the car. ask for a compression check! make sure they look at the plugs and coolant. ask them if they think the engine oil has been changed regularly, make sure they inspect everything else (tranny, brakes, etc). ask specific questions, not just "is the car ok". make them think you know what you are talking about.
