Decisions.. X-Drilled rotors or Y pipe? Which one would you do?
My car needs brakes, the rear pads are gone. So I was thinking cross drilled rotors and pads from Phoung. It's a nice set up and would look really hot on my car.
BUT - Do I really need them?
I could just put rear OEM pads on there and be done with it. I got the Folia Tec paint today to clean up the calipers, so when I'm finished the brakes should look great. With the $$$ I save going that route, I can get the SS Warpspeed Y pipe for my Max.
Which way would you go?
A) X-Drilled rotors all around with new Metal Axxis pads. (keep in mind I need brakes)
OR
B) Just replace the pads and with the $$$ I save get the Y pipe?
I've been told that an intake is a must if I go with a Y pipe.
Any comments on that theory?
Tom

After looking at your homepage and getting an idea of what you've done to your car, I think you should do the pad/rotor thing. If you just paint your calipers and replace the pads, you're gonna stand back after you're done and say "Damn, those are some rusty, ugly a$$ rotors. What the hell are they still doing in there seeing as the rest of my car is so squeaky clean?"
I concur with lj10. Knowing your personality somewhat, you'll appreciate the looks as well as the better performance of the brakes. I also suggest you get SS lines for the better pedal feel and flush the brake fluid while you're there.
If/when you decide you want more performance you can pick up a ypipe, intake, exhaust, etc. I also suggest talking to Brian at Fastbrakes.com as well as buying from Phuong. I've bought several things from Phuong, but Brian is also great for brakes. I got my slotted rotors and speed bleeders from Brian, and I ordered my SS lines and pads from Phuong all for under $500. This was a year ago too

ljl10 and xHypex I think you guys are correct. I hope I have enough pad in the rear to last me a couple weeks. Phoung is out of stock on rotors.
I'll start by painting the calipers. I got silver Folia Tec paint so they'll just be really clean looking and not stand out that much. You guys are right, the rotors will polish off my car a bit more. I can get the Y pipe anytime down the road. I don't race Max, I do drive him hard now and then - FUN!!
Thanks guys!

Get the Y-pipe & some nice Carbon Metallic brake pads from Autozone.
The X-drilled rotors are good but not necessary for normal everyday driving. Try and avoid Slotted rotors. They tend to make 'taka-taka-taka' noise...very annoying.
You should also get an Intake... 20 extra ponies is something you WILL feel & enjoy. I do have a used JWT Intake for sale if you are interested.

i agree with the others though, if you are not feeling like the car is underpowered, get the brakes... I've done both - and umm, I like the ypipe
but i also race...

Brakes
Normally I would say go with some new pads and a y-pipe. From what I gather from your participation on the ".org", I think that you would get more satisfaction from new rotors, pads & caliper paint. Just my opinion.
I would also add a set of Goodrich SS lines. That would finish her off just right.
If you have or plan on getting speed bleeders AND the SS lines, makes sure the speed bleeders are of quality. Not the cheap-o off brand kind (like the Help! brand).
In my case, not knowing any better, I used the cheap-o speed bleeders when I installed my SS lines and blew the two rear ones before I even made it out of the driveway. I'm assuming they couldn't handle the additional line pressure due to the SS lines.

What kind of rotors do you have? I just bought the Raceconcepts dimple-drilled & slotted rotors. There are made from Brembo blanks!!
