what parts for a brake job

My friend is going to help me change the front and rear brakes of my 98 gxe, my question is what other parts I need to buy (after brake pads), do I need to buy the hardware kits (front and rear)?. Any special type of pads or other parts that I need ? Of course I want to buy OEM parts, anybody know the best place to buy on the web? Any help ?
Thanks,

You might want to get the shim kit for the front & rear. When I changed my pads, the front ones were okay but the rear ones were practically disintegrated. The shims go between the pads & the calipers.

There's a big variety of pads types. Do a search & that should pull up some good info. I went with KVR semi-metallic pads instead of oem. They're good but dust up a fair bit.

You may want to pick up a tube of anti-squeal compound as well. I recommend using OEM shims they seem to be the quietest I've experienced.

Re: what parts for a brake job

Hello
OEM Brake last as long as Autoparts/NAPA/Pepboys' brands.

Go to Autoparts and get the lifetime warranty one (ask the people there, really friendly).

And remember, when changing pads,

1. wash the caliper w/ brake cleaner
2. using C clamp, shove the used brake pads together
3. get the anti rattle pin out
4. take the long screw things (2) out
5. shove in new pads
6. put back the long screw thingies
7. pin the rattle pin
8. done

And you might want to spend some more $ by buying anti-squeaking compound and applying it at the back of the pad.

Hope that helps.

If I buy the Front and rear pads (complete front and rear) $56 and $42 (from Courtesy Nissan), do they come with the Shims kits together or do I have to buy the shims kits separately?

Pretty sure they'd be separate. I bought rear shims as a kit so the front & rear shim packs come separately. However, they do come with the anti-squeal goop. It's a red colored goop. At least you can save a couple bucks that way.
