He said to equal the hp at the wheels not to be as fast. The difference at the wheels is only around 10hp, a y-pipe alone gives you that...

it really depends on your car. but for horsepower throw an intake and y-pipe on and you may surpase a 5speed in hp. but as far as speed itself goes it will require more. the average 5speed runs a 15.1 i would say. my car does a 15.6 stock and its auto. (and thats pretty d*mn good) although MZMTG is the man but i will prolly need intake, y-pipe, catback exhaust, vbmod. then i should be able to show most STOCK 5speeds whats up. but then again i just put 1300$ in my car to get there d*mn auto tranny

I would have to say....5-speed conversion or Stillen forced induction will kill a 5-speed! i think.....

Thank you captain Obvious

A Y pipe and intake should put you at about 5 speed level. I don't believe the average 5 speed is 15.1, that is rather quick, and with a pretty good driver. From what I've seen when most stock guys do just average, its about 15.3-15.6, and of course some lower, and some higher.

Ok sorry for the flame, but it has nothing to do with whether I have a 5 speed or not, that is quite irrelavent. Of course having a 5 speed will equal a....5 speed and of course forced induction will better a stock 5 speed, that's why I made the comment.

The 5-speed has better gearing and less driveline losses. I doubt any list of mods short of nitrous or boost could make an auto keep up with a stock 5 speed (with a decent driver).

I wouldn't go that far with the nitrous or boost. ya you have to do alot of the bolt ons to equal a 5spd but all you need is y-pipe. catback, intake and VI and your either as fast or faster than a 5spd in the 1/4 mile. I raced a 5spd max with intake from a stop and beat him by 1/2 car up to 85, I had y-pipe/intake/exhaust at the time. so it can be done, and if i had my Vi installed then i would have beatn him by a pretty good margin.

I raced BIGMAX(auto, y-pipe, CAI) and beat him pretty easy. I got a better launch though, but I think if he got a good launch too, I still would have edged him out. When he's up to speed and punches it, its a whole other story though.

Well the question asked was how to make an AUTO have the same wheel HP as a 5 speed. Now this can be done with a Y pipe and Intake combo in most cases. A 5 speed conversion or forced induction is quite unnecessary just to equal the wheel HP.

It's cool that putting a system in your car makes you a badass too.

I want to run a stock 5spd and see how I do.

I dont miss 5spd for the speed.. I'm 25 and I dont drive fast anymore.. But I wish I had 5spd anyways, because the auto trannies on maximas NEVER downshifts correctly.

Well, chalk one up for the Auto's. I beat a 5-speed yesterday by a 1 1/2 car lengths. He had an exhaust and I had all bolt-ons. SO, it is possible. ...witha Y of course.
