weak first gear

I have a '95 Max GXE auto, and my first gear is really weak. If you floor it, the engine will bog down a going 3/4 throttle will give me better response than full. Is this normal for these cars? I am the second owner and there are 112K miles I've had this car since may. could it be dirty plugs or injectors? (or would that make all the gears weak?) if anyone can help i'd apprectiate it.

CEL light on? Something is definately wrong. Clogged catalytic converter?

That car should smoke the tires in 1st when you floor it instantly!

Hm...im thinking spark plugs, dirty fuel injectors, and possibly fuel filter.
Theres definately a prob, cuz my 1st pulls hard, and flooring it would spin the tires.
Also, its possible it could be your transmisson, but you should worry about that after you do the obvious (tune up)

I am really hoping its not the trans. cause thats not something I want to have fixed or replaced. I'll start at the obvious points, with the filters and such... hopefully i can get this fixed cause i know the car has a lot more speed in it somewhere

It is the trans. ...auto's are slow in first gear. The gear is too tall and you can't launch. Brake torqueing did diddly-squat in my case a while back. I too though something was wrong with my car back when I was auto but when I got the major tune-up nothing improved.

There are only two outcomes here...get a 5-speed, or deal with the autotragic.
