Gas Octane Requirements

Just wanted to clear up something that I saw earlier.
The Maxima Owners MANUAL clearly states for 4th generation that 91 Octane is recommended (for maximum performance) BUT that at least an 87 Octane is required.
(it also states that the performance may be reduced if using the 87 Octane gas)
Thus one can use the lower cost gas - just don't expect the horses to move as fast!

It's a catch-22. The engine will run on 87 octane, but with the reduced power available, your fuel mileage will go down, especially around town with the A/C cranked. The end result is you end up burning more of the "cheaper" gas. I'd rather have good performance AND good gas mileage.
