Cylinder Order, basic ?

New to the board.

I don't usually tinker with this car too much and am just learning about it ... anyway, I threw a couple of codes ... 2-1(ignition signal circuit) and 6-5(cyl 4 misfire). It has 50K on it, so I changed the plugs, they looked like they needed it. Ran like a top on the test drive afterward, then threw the same codes again the next day. My question is simple, which cylinder is #4? Is it the front center? I assumed the numbering went 135 on the back, left to right, and 246 on the front, left to right. Is that correct? I plan on switching the coil for #4 with #2 and see if I get a code for a cyl 2 misfire to narrow down the problem.

Also, this has got to be the easiest set of plugs I've ever installed!Man, this car is easy to work on!

Thanks!

Wade

Standiing in front of your car, facing the motor, the front bank of cylinders are 2-4-6 and the rears are 1-3-5, going from left to right, or belts to tranny.

Thanks. I guessed right.

I just went to check the codes again (lunch break), looks like the misfire error has moved to the cylinder I exchanged coils with. So, I guess that's probably it unless one of you has any other ideas?

I can be your "non-Maxima" friend too. I have a 1991 Vette I tinker with as well. Thanks for the quick reply!

welcome to the .org

I'd recommend you go out and buy a Haynes manual for your Maxima. It covers a lot of things and a quick flip of the pages will uncover a lot.
