you should upgrade exhaust system too

Adding just an intake will probably give you a few hps. But you should really install an intake and upgrade the exhaust components (y-pipe, cat, midpipe, muffler) to high-flow. They work together and will give you decent hps gains. More air in -- more air out. I think thats how it works.

Most folks on this forum will say the Place Racing Cold Air Intake (CAI) is the best intake. I purchased the Stillen intake before joining this forum. And, following the recommendations of many here, I purchased the CAI. Personally, I didn't like it at all. My car ran like absolute crap with it installed. It made my car slow and just sucked gas. I was using the stock intake for a while and my car runs the best with it. I recently reinstalled the Stillen intake because I really like the growl it makes. I recommend getting the JWT intake because it is priced at $115. It is basically the same as the Stillen intake, but at a lower price. The CAI is priced at $215.

The installation of an upgraded intake is a popular stepping-stone to modding the hell out of your car. Be prepared to spend lots of money

Personally, I chose the JWT intake because I didn't want to cut a hole in my car for the CAI. Not to mention, I got a great deal on this thing used. I haven't seen the Stillen intake in person, but from the pics it looks just like the JWT. Not worth the extra $$$ IMO. Any intake should make nice growling sound at WOT which, to me, is totally worth its cost.

Thanks! You think my Max would look good with that paint job? Some nice cars in those 80s shows. I grew up lusting over many of them. Now I just need to add pictures of the A-Team van and K.I.T.T. to my sig

Had the Stillen intake for about 2 months. Then i installed my CAI from Place Racing and felt the gains in the mid to high end power. Plus it sounds alot cooler too. IMHO i like the cold air alot better!!!

I have the CAI and it's definatly better than stock, you can feel the response to the wheels. If you don't want to cut the hole, then go with the JWT intake and spend the saved money on suspension upgrades. If you do get the CAI, make sure you get the hole saw (it makes installation much easier) and free up 2-3 hours to put in.

Stillen/K&N, or JWT intake is a good investment. In isolation, it does not add that much power. Most measurements are in the 3-6 HP range. But it most certainly does change the audible characterisics of the engine in a good kind of way. (ie:it sounds bad @$$). The CAI yeilds better power, BUT, they are expensive and require the drilling of a hole into your car (left wheel well to be exact). Some people, such as myself, have a strong adversion to this, especially those with leased vehicles. The Stillen or JWT can easily be swapped back and forth with the stock unit, its a simple, 15 minute job.

The y-pipe is where the big performance improvements come from. And beware of recommendations about exhaust upgrades. Go to some meets and get a good listen to cars that have exhausts, before you committ to one.
