Why are 96-97 maximas cost the same or sometimes even
more than the I30. I prefer the Maxima, although it seems it would be a better investment to go with the I30.
Any advise???????

hmm...in my opinion

hiya! i got both i30 and maxima hehe... well.... i think the i30 is little bit more quieter and to me....infinity just seem more luxurious inside and outside. even though i heard that i30 and maxima are pretty much the same (which is kinda true) but overall i preferred the ride in i30..i think it's much firmer than my stock maxima ^_^

Supply and demand, the same free market phenomenon that governs the price of diamonds, real estate, radishes, and Microsoft stock. Supply and demand.

DB Martin's got it. -basically.

Infiniti has the worst depreciation of any of its peers. No matter the model. This is not to say they are inferior in any way.
They basically lost the war against Lexus when the whole thing started back in the late 80's and early 90's.(the Q45 was a better car than the LS400 at the time and soon will be again)
The I30 has more sound deadaning material and couple of different emblems.-that's about it.
It's really just up to your taste.
But the point - Even though Infinitis' should sell for more, they don't. That's the supply and demand nutshell.
Take advantage of it if you like.
The Q45 (early models) is one of the best buys out there.
8 to 10 grand for a race proven V8 that will smoke!!
Luxury galore and reliable as hell.
Can't wait to see the new Q. Should be awesome.

Don't forget that the I30T has,

a VLSD and traction control,it also has a rear sunshade and auto dimming rear view mirror, chrome door handels {inside and out} 1 touch power sunroof, chrome door sills and a better warranty so I give two thumbs up to the I30 specialy if you can find one with a 5SPD {I can't}.

I have both...

a 98 SE and a 98 I30T. Without question, if you can get both cars at anywhere near the same price point, get the I30. I agree with the previous letter that the I30 is quieter with better finish materials. Many of the differences are small, but will be appreciated. There is significant content in the I30 to make it worth more ( I happily paid more and don't regret it) so it's a no-brainer at the same price point. You may well be able to find one in warranty (50k Bumper to bumper 70 drivetrain vs 36/36 on the Max). Two features that cannot easily or cheaply be added at all are the limited slip differential LSD (on touring model or on any I30 with the winter package as evidenced by heated seats) and antilock brakes (insurance discount). There are also many cosmetic features, including self dimming mirror, ambient temp indicator, factory clear corners after 96, chrome door handles, better quality carpet and mats, rear headrests, and many others. I'll put it to you this way, I loooove my MAX, but if I had to do over, I'd get two I30's. Especially if they were the same price. If at all possible, try to find a 5-speed (assuming you want one) in the I30, NOT on an Infinity lot. Most Luxury buyers don't want a stick, and these do not move off of a non-nissan lot, so great bargains to be had. Good luck.
