i think headers for a maxima would cost $1,000, and i dont think you'll see much different gains then a y pipe.i may be wrong though..
btw...dont ever believe what $tealin says..the like to lie lots and lots and lots

Ask him for a quote and a picture. Then see if he's still so insisting!

Stillen is not and probabyl will never mass produce headers. 1) there's no room to make a header that will work properly, and 2) stillen's bread and butter is not the maxima.

I almost had them done at a local shop. They wanted around 1500.00+ for a custom job, which would include relocating the radiator, and making the header for real gain in hp. But then I invested some money in stereo. But this year, might be the year, I don't have a single aftermarket exhaust component on my car yet, but once I get started, shhhiiiiiiitttt, look out, I am talking CUSTOM, (big bucks too.)

P.S. And that's if I don't sell my car. I am actually putting up a stink about my suspended license.

Headers and stuff

- Okay, Cattman claims that a new header is something like "not financially or practically viable for the Maxima." ie, it costs too much and wouldn't provide too much power - right?
- However, that 25hp gain posted earlier has me salivating. Is there really going to be that much of a difference if I just did a full exhaust from the Y-pipe back and no header work?
- It makes sense that the headers would produce some power, especially in the higher rpm's, but Cattman has me worried about it not doing anything - or possibly losing some torque.
- What if we just took off the headers ourselves and had them ported and polished somewhere? That seems to be the cheapest way. But with Cattman's disclaimer, I'm not so sure it would do anything (maybe even hurt output). Any thoughts?

BTW

- Wait a second! We have the same engine as a N/A 300ZX, right? Do THEY have headers? I understand that their engine is mounted N/S, while ours is E/W (possibly limiting room to work in), but do they make 'em for those guys? If so, what results have they gotten and how come we can't bolt them right on our cars?

Nope you don't have the same engien. Also according to the NA Z guys the stillen headers aren't worth buying unless your running N2O. Lets face it headers at the most would only gain 2-5fwhp over a Y pipe assuming its properly tuned. Given the breathing characteristics of the VQ30DE, the best results would have to be in the 4400-6000rpm range. Furthermore why spend $1k on headers when you can better bang for the buck with a Y pipe. A y-pipe is way easier to install than headers are. I figure unless one is building a NA high powered max a Y pipe is just fine.

there are headers for the max

go to http://www.maxima.8m.com and click on mods. they list 4 different headers and claim 15-25 hp. i am looking further into this and hope to get real dyno numbers.
