cutting the stock springs?

hey i don't know if this has been covered or not but, i was wondering if it was ok to cut the stock springs to lower my car. My red neck uncle says it is safe and it won't mess up my stuff but, i don't know if i should trust him.

I cut 1 1/4 coils from the front of my I30t coils and it rides perfect. I am still not sure if would ride better with some B+G springs but the amount lowered should be 1.7" about the same. On the rear I used a small oxygen/mapp gas torch and the two coils off the bottom to even out the ride. I didn't heat the fronts because the turning will give coil rubbing noises. I have the agxs and set on 2 front 3 back and everything rides pretty great. However I would think that a progressive spring may give better handling but it is safe and won't mess up whatever stuff you are talking about. Just be careful the amount of coils I cut is probably the most before the spring starts floating in the spring/strut assembly.
