Weird acceleration.....
Weird acceleration.....
At times, mostly when hot (I live in Las Vegas). I notice that my car at normal throttle level accelerates at a weird pace. The RPMs will climb about 200 RPMs and pause for a brief second before climbing up another 200 RPMs. You have to really pay attention to notice it. Its not too bad to the point it affects the ride, but it really bothers me. At full throttle the car seems to be fine.

I have a 98 auto and my car does it too. I notice that if it is very humid the car doesnt have any pull and it will jump in little increments like you said. Maybe it is the knock sensor. My last car was a 94 sentra 5-spd and it did the same thing. Weird. I was thinking that it was my fuel injectors or something. I hope someone has the answer.
When it's hot out, my car seems to have moments of slight hesitation more often throughout the low-to-mid range of the powerband. Could be a couple things on my car....I wouldn't rule the knock sensor out - even if it's not "bad" yet it might be a little too sensitive. I use 92 octane gas, but...
The hesitation is pretty much gone if it's under 90 degrees outside, and doesn't occur under WOT.

Definately the knock sensor, classic symptoms. Check your ecu for engine codes. The knock sensor alone does not trip the CEL, but if you pulled the codes guaranteed it will be there.....need to know how to replace it? Follow this link!
knock sensor how to!

my car does the same thing
my 95 SE has been doing the same thing for a couple of months now and several people have already suggested the knock sensor. i haven't gotten time to replace it yet.
but to further complicate matters...could a bad knock sensor retard the fuel enough to give me starting problems? after my car sits for several hours i have to let it crank for 3-4 seconds before it will start. battery, alternator, and starter are all tip-top. it just seems like it's getting no fuel. any suggestions on this would be awesome.

Before you go replacing your knock sensor make sure your throttle position sensor is working right first - that also affects acceleration. Voltage specs are at vbxmaxima.8m.com. That part went out before my knock sensor and I noticed good improvement when I replaced mine, as well as when I replaced the knock sensor afterwards. Of course my ECU threw codes for those parts, but the TPS was having problems way before. I say this because it will cost you only 1/3 to 1/2 as much to replace, and it could be free if you can adjust it without actually replacing it if your specs are just a little bit out of range.

Re: my car does the same thing
My 97 SE 5 speed was doing the same thing. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and plugs. Now it starts ok, but it is still doing the hesitation thing. I am also getting a knock sensor code. Looks like I might be replacing the Knock sensor next.
